Details
Photography is a passion of mine, and I enjoy capturing moments whenever I find the time. I work with a variety of gear, including DSLR, mirrorless, and film cameras. Wanting to showcase my best shots, I decided to create a dedicated photography portfolio website. With some free time on my hands, I took the opportunity to build it from scratch.
Ideation
The concept for my photography portfolio website was inspired by the desire to evoke a "digital interaction" that mirrors the "tactile experience" of handling a Polaroid. In an era where vintage trends are resurging with modern flair, I sought to craft a digital journey that allows users to engage with my photographs on their mobile devices as though they were holding physical Polaroid prints. This fusion of nostalgic aesthetics with contemporary digital design offers an immersive experience, blending the charm of the analog past with the fluidity of the digital present.
Process
The process behind developing a "polaroid-like" experience was to first mimic the physical structure of Polaroids. I went with the most common Polaroid size, the Instax Mini size as it pairs well with the aspect ratio of modern smart phones.
Execution
After deciding the base structure of the design, I took a mobile-first approach to developing this site. I created the mobile site first and the I created the desktop site. Users also have an option to toggle between slideshow and gallery viewing modes. They can click on the right side of the screen to move forward in the array to view the next image or click on left side of the screen to move backward in the array to view the previous image.
